Welcome to Anulom Vilom Pranayama
Did you know that a turtle lives over 200 years, while a dog lives only 10–15 years? The secret lies in their breathing rhythm. In this Breathing Workshop, we explore how Anulom Vilom Pranayama helps you discover the natural rhythm of breath and live a more balanced life.
- A turtle breathes just 1–2 times per minute.
- A dog breathes more than 10 times per minute.
Just like nature follows a rhythm, your breath also holds a sacred rhythm. Through alternate nostril breathing, this rhythm brings clarity, calmness, and vitality.
What is Anulom Vilom Pranayama?
Anulom means “with the flow” and Vilom means “against the flow.” It is also known as Nadi Shodhana or yogic alternate nostril breathing.
This pranayama balances:
- Ida Nadi (left nostril – moon energy – Shakti)
- Pingala Nadi (right nostril – sun energy – Shiva)
By harmonizing these, the central channel Sushumna Nadi is activated — opening the path to spiritual awareness.
How to Practice Anulom Vilom Pranayama
- Sit comfortably in Sukhasana or Padmasana with a straight spine.
- Use Vishuddhi Mudra – close the right nostril with the thumb.
- Inhale slowly through the left nostril (Poorak).
- Close both nostrils gently and hold the breath (Kumbhak).
- Exhale slowly through the right nostril (Rechak).
- Now inhale from the right, hold, and exhale from the left.
- Repeat for 5 to 10 minutes with full awareness.
